Features of the Georgia Milestone Assessment System include:
  • open-ended (constructed-response) items in language arts and mathematics (all grades and courses)
  • a writing component (in response to passages read by students) at every grade level and course within the language arts assessment
  • norm-referenced items in all content areas and courses, to complement the criterion-referenced information, and to provide a national comparison

End-Of-Course-Tests (EOC) (grades 9-12)

The End-of-course tests for Georgia high school students will be given in the courses listed:

Language Arts

  • Ninth Grade Literature and Composition
  • American Literature and Composition

  • Algebra I
  • Geometry
  • Coordinate Algebra

These exams are considered final assessments for each of the courses. They count for 20% of the final grade in the course. Middle school students taking these courses for high school credit will take the End-of-course-test rather than the End-of-grade test. To receive credit for the course, students must pass the exam.
